Saddle Rock is one of the most well-known landmarks at Fort Robinson, Nebraska. A nearby herd of longhorn cattle is a favorite of passing photographers who use Saddle Rock for a backdrop. To travel to Saddle Rock, go .5-mile west on Highway 20 from Crawford's Legend Buttes Golf Course. On the right, you will see a small, weed-covered parking lot. Park there and climb the fence. You will see some trail marker posts that have small diamonds on them. Follow them to the high point of the trail between Saddle Rock on the right, and Red Cloud Buttes on the left. You will see a trail to the right that will take you out to Saddle Rock. You will need to work around to the east side, since the west side is vertical. The east side is steep, but you can scramble to the summit if you are careful. The Nebraska Interactive Trails Map shows the route.
